Kernel 3.2.0.4, unable to load phc-intel

Post by salamisami » Tue 10. Feb 2015, 23:28

Hello, I am using Crunchbang Debian with kernel 3.2.0.4 amd64.

I downloaded phc-intel-pack-rev16.tar.bz2 from http://www.linux-phc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=267 and ran sudo make and sudo make install. This created phc-intel.ko at lib/modules/3.2.0-4amd64/extra, and when i try to unload acpi_cpufreq I get device busy. OK, I run rmmod with -force parameter and it unloads the module. Then I attempt to load phc-intel, but I get

Code: Select all

"ERROR: could not insert phc-intel: unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
and then dmesg:

Code: Select all

 "phc_intel: Unknown symbol dmi_check_system_2 (err 0)
I am currently at a loss. I had previously been somehow able to configure phc on the very same distro and kernel so I know it should be possible, what am I doing wrong?

Hm, could be kernel/module-version mismatch. Do you have additional kernel-sources installed? What's the output of `ls /usr/src/` and `ls /lib/modules/`? What's the output of your make-run?

Btw. you don't need to run `make` as root. only `make install`.

Huh, I ran make again and then modprobing worked succesfully, now i have phc installed. Thanks for your time. Maybe I previously lacked some packages after all.
