i am going to buy a new CPU for my always on pc and i will leave 3 cores for computation for the World Community Grid for humanity benefit
I would like to undervolt and underclock the CPU because it will decrease power dissipation over a littler decrease in computation. (Power dissipation is proportional to the square of the frequency).
So my questions are:
Could i choose CPU frequency step/voltage with PHC on modern CPU like 3570 or 4670 ?
Do i need the K series?
If you have trouble with PHC you can ask and hope for help here.

It is to the square of voltage and linear with frequency. While undervolting does not change the performance, underclocking will as the performance goes down the same way as the frequency drops. For CPU-bound stuff its often more energy efficient to get the job done really fast aka highest frequency and go back to idle as fast as possible for extended periods of idle.xenoky wrote:(Power dissipation is proportional to the square of the frequency).
The only way to undervolt such systems is through the motherboard/BIOS.Could i choose CPU frequency step/voltage with PHC on modern CPU like 3570 or 4670 ?
