I use Debian experimental and the Kernel (ver. 2.6.28) compiled succesfully with patch linux-phc-0.3.2-kernel-vanilla-2.6.26.patch. After inserting module all files are created but all files are emty.

Code: Select all

I think this is because you use a Desktop-CPU. They are not designet to step down Frequencies and Voltages in the same manner as Mobile CPUs.

Hi,
I think the Q6600 is not supported by linux-phc. The cpu is able to undervolt as many other dektop cpu's.

Do you have Windows installed on your System and check if Undervolting is able there? If you are right then we really have to fix that.

I had installed vista several days ago on a seperate hdd.thecpu succesfully scaled down below 1 GHz.

As the "power management" line is empty, I would expect that it isn't possible to scale down...

Stepping it down is one point but are you able to undervolt it, too?

The normal way is to decrease the multiplikator from 9 to 6 (2400 MHz - 1600 MHz). Below 1600Mhz it can't be anything else then undervolting.
hould I install a new windows test System to proove the undervolting, or is this Inforformation enough?

It is not necessary to install a new system.

Can you give me the output of read_msr (tool downloadable in this forum) ?

How many speed steps you have normally with Linux ?

Now Linux is stepping between 1. 1600MHz(266 X 6) and 2. 2400MHz(266 X 9). Only these 2 are used.
Here the output of msrtool (looks interesting)

Code: Select all

MSRTOOL V0.1 started...
