Can't set VIDS using phc-intel-0.3.99-15

Post by oOarthurOo » Wed 13. Jan 2010, 01:57

Greetings, using phc-intel-0.3.99-15 on debian testing (uname -a = 2.6.30-2), I can't set the vid values. The script made available does not work. Echoing commands does not work. I haven't yet tried the PHC tool, but I'm just looking for a simple way to set the values.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hello,

the 0.3.99 was not mant for public use but for public testing.
No script works with it and some things may have not been working because it was only a testing release.
You should have found that information in the included readme file.

How ever I recommend that you use 0.3.2 until 0.4 is ready for a public use or I release the next testing-version (if you want to test it).

Hi TF, I tried to use the .32 release, but two out of five hunks failed on kernel 2.6.30-2 (Debian Squeeze). I also tried some of the off-tree versions under /inc but without success.

Any idea which version I can use with kernel 2.6.30-2?

I'll add some more details...

Running Kernel 2.6.30-2 from Debian Squeeze respositorites. Applied patch 0.32 results:
mordor:/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.30/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq# patch -p1 < phc.patch
patching file arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 23.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 56.
Hunk #3 FAILED at 102.
Hunk #4 FAILED at 740.
Hunk #5 FAILED at 757.
5 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.c.rej
For some reason it doesn't actually create the .rej file so I can't attach it. I next tried to use the 3.2-9 file, under inc, for 2.6.30,
mordor:/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.30/arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq# patch -p1 < phc.patch
patching file arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.c
Hunk #1 FAILED at 23.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 59.
Hunk #3 FAILED at 112.
Hunk #4 FAILED at 780.
Hunk #5 FAILED at 797.
5 out of 5 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file arch/x86/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.c.rej
Again, not sure why but it doesn't actually create the rejects file.

Ok.. I downloaded the latest stable vanilla kernel from kernel.org, applied the patches for 2.6.32 from the /inc/ directory, and even though test applying gave errors, I applied patches anyway, had to select the acpi file name (not ending in orig) and compiled without errors.

Currently seems to be working just fine, I'm able to echo settings to the phc_controls file again, so I'd have to say close and mark as solved.

Great.

Sometimes the distribution kernels already contain some patches so a patch created with a vanilla kernel fail.
