PHC Ubuntu Kernel PPA ships bogus utsrelease.h

Post by KdE » Sat 3. Jul 2010, 20:59

I dont know, why this file contains such a string, but someone should fix this.

Code: Select all

cat /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-23-generic-phc/include/linux/utsrelease.h
#define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.32.15+drm33.5"

Current problems are:

Code: Select all

phc-intel-0.3.2-10$ sudo make install
install -m 644 -o root -g root phc-intel.modprobe /etc/modprobe.d/phc-intel.conf
mkdir -p /lib/modules/2.6.32.15+drm33.5/extra
install -m 644 -o root -g root phc-intel.ko /lib/modules/2.6.32.15+drm33.5/extra/
depmod 2.6.32.15+drm33.5 -a

which leads to a new useless folder in /lib and a not working install routine

Code: Select all

phc-intel-0.3.2-10$ sudo modprobe phc-intel
FATAL: Module phc_intel not found.

Interesting but very annoying.
I marked it STICKY so others will take notice and I will remember investigating that.

I do not think its the ppa by itself but the ubuntu kernel (but I may be wrong with that) since the ppa is build from the original ubuntu source with only the necessary changes to use phc.

Either we take care of that by changing the PPA build

or
(my personal favourite at the moment)

We/I/Someone change the Makefile to "fix" that problem (because other distributions may do the same)

Thanks for reporting that.

I have checked the last PPA kernel for 10.10 Maverick and 10.04 Lucid. Both seem to be ok, but I should note that the file moved from include/linux/ to include/generated/

10.10 Maverick with 2.6.35-22.33~phc0:

Code: Select all

$ cat /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-22-generic-phc/include/linux/utsrelease.h
cat: /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-22-generic-phc/include/linux/utsrelease.h: No such file or directory
$ cat /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.35-22-generic-phc/include/generated/utsrelease.h
#define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.35-22-generic-phc"

10.04 Lucid with 2.6.32-25.44~phc0:

Code: Select all

cat /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-25-generic-phc/include/linux/utsrelease.h
#define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.32-25-generic-phc"
$ cat /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-25-generic-phc/include/generated/utsrelease.h
cat: /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.32-25-generic-phc/include/generated/utsrelease.h: No such file or directory
