Heya, to easiest way to check what kind of CPU you have is to take a look into the BIOS (most newer BIOSes display the CPU somewhere) or at least the POST-Screen of the BIOS (the fist thing you see when you start the computer). You can also check the output of cat /proc/cpuinfo If you can not go low...

Your question is not noobish, not for us.

As I understand you installed the ppa kernel and phctool (not maintained!).

You also need to install the phc modules for your CPU.
The Kernel package does not include them, it is just prepared to use phc modules in ubuntu.

Sometimes the distribution kernels already contain some patches so a patch created with a vanilla kernel fail.

Hello, the 0.3.99 was not mant for public use but for public testing. No script works with it and some things may have not been working because it was only a testing release. You should have found that information in the included readme file. How ever I recommend that you use 0.3.2 until 0.4 is read...

The voltage range is not meant to be used while the CPU is active. It defines the range of possible voltages for that design. Low voltages like 0.8V may only be used while the CPU is in an Sleep-State (idling), not while running.

The errors in the messages you posted (compile error messages) do not belong to the PHC part so it seems that those kernels are different to the Vanilla one. Maybe the distribution patched something in the acpi subsystem.
