I have exactly the same problem. I have installed the kernel from the ppa in Kubuntu Karmic and I have compiled the phc-k8 0.4.2 version. I can see that phc-k8 loads by checking the output of "dmesg" but I behaves the same way as powernow_k8. I cannot see the phc files en /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu...

Reading the wiki a bit more I think I could help in the development of the module phc-est. The motherboard I use does not acpi for the CPU.
