Re: 4 GB RAM -- PAE or 64-bit Ubuntu PPA?

I am interested to hear that you found no disadvantages with 64-bit Ubuntu. Was
everything OK with Flash playback, and media codecs for playbacks? Thanks!

Re: phc_controls no such device but phc_version is 0.3.2:1

I would say that the acpi and speedstep modules should do the same thing ... neither can convince an Intel chip to go lower than the minimum VID, or slower than the minimum FID. However, I can use all 8 steps of FID in my chip with speedstep, whereas the acpi will, I believe, use only 4. This is not...

Success with Intel T7400

Used original speedstep-centrino patches and developed my own table for T7400, which I then built-in to the speedstep-centrino. Was able to undervolt at full speed (2.16 GHz) from 1.21v to 1.05v for 2½ years, until I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.04. Tried the acpi-cpufreq version from the Ubuntu PPA, but it...

4 GB RAM -- PAE or 64-bit Ubuntu PPA?

I plan to build my next system in four months or so, and I'm planning on installing 4 GB of RAM. Are there any plans to extend the Ubuntu PPA to offer either PAE (physical address extension) kernel, aka the "server" kernel, or a 64-bit one? Just planning ahead ... with the desktop kernel only 3.2 GB...

Re: phc_controls no such device but phc_version is 0.3.2:1

Great to hear that you made it (somehow) I am sure your next System will work with any newer PHC Versions. Did you already tried to find a BIOS-Update ? Thanks! The motherboard is an AOpen mobile-on-the-desktop board, almost 3 years old, and there hasn't been a new BIOS in a long time. The MOTD pro...

speedstep-centrino works (was Re: phc_controls no such devic

I downloaded the source for the PPA kernel, and went through my usual steps to
create a speedstep-centrino module with an undervolted table for my T7400 processor.
It works! :D Hopefully the standard acpi-cpufreq will work in my next system.

Re: phc_controls no such device but phc_version is 0.3.2:1

OK, looking at the Troubleshooting section, I see that the problem might be a faulty BIOS. :?: Although my system undervolted fine with speedstep-centrino (I added a table for the T7400), and read_msr provides good values. In any case, I'm thinking of building a replacement system at the first of th...

phc_controls no such device but phc_version is 0.3.2:1

Hello, I used the speedstep_centrino version of PHC successfully for a couple of years. When I upgraded to Ubuntu 9.0.4 and its built-in modules, I just gave up on undervolting for several months. Now that the PPA for a PHC kernel is available, today I've installed that. Things look good up to a poi...
